Eldernell Lake.

Eldernell is a lovely lake situated in Coates near Whittlesey and boasts some large carp as well as other species, which all in all makes it a good all round fishery. I like to take my son on most of my trips and in this Hotspot he can get a good net of roach and rudd while I try to net a few monster carp. All the swims have nice wooden jetties which make it nice and comfy but they seriously limit the use of rod rests and umbrellas, so if you are after carp a pod is a good idea. Groundbait is not allowed but you can use feeders, pva netting etc., also boilies are not allowed. I've had good results on sweetcorn and carp-bites (Wades tackle shop £1.50 per tin) fished over a pva bag filled with carp pellets and my friends tell me luncheon meat works quite well also. Opening times are 7.30am till 5.30pm then 5.30pm till dusk, these are separate sessions and if you want to fish both then you have to pay twice, Night fishing is not allowed. Prices are £5 per session or you can pay once in the morning for both sessions and the cost is £7. The bailiff collects on the bank so you just set-up and fish. For the smaller species the standards work best (maggot, caster). So grab your gear and head to Eldernell you won't be disappointed. For more information tel: 01733 840077

Daniel and Pat both caught the carping bug after landing their first ever carp at this great venue. No monsters, both around the 3 to 4 pound mark but an excellent day out for beginners and experts alike. The record for this venue is 22lb but smaller specimens are more likely. In the summer freelined crusty bread or dog biscuits really seem to do the trick.
